Veneers are ultra-thin dental restorations that are designed to cover your natural smile and improve its appearance by correcting several dental flaws at once. This cosmetic procedure can be completed in just two appointments here at Dentistry at Hickory Flat, and they’ll be sure to transform your smile’s dull appearance into a dazzling one before you know it.

In today’s world, veneers have become the #1 cosmetic procedure for patients who want a dramatic and fast smile makeover. These customized shells are lifelike, strong, and even resistant staining more successfully than original tooth enamel. If you’re dealing with any of the following imperfections, a new veneer might be the best choice for you:

The Process of Getting Veneers

The first step on your journey towards a brand-new smile is a consultation with our team. During your appointment, we’ll perform an oral examination and inquire about your goals to determine whether or not you’re a good candidate for veneers. If you’re good to go, you’ll be scheduled for your first phase of treatment.

At that initial appointment, we’ll remove a thin layer of enamel to ensure the veneers sit flush against the teeth. Digital impressions will be taken of your mouth and sent to a trusted dental laboratory for the creation of your permanent restorations. Each veneer will be designed to meet your exact needs.

In about two weeks, you’ll return to our office for the placement of final veneers. We’ll remove your temporary ones and permanently attach the new restorations. Once we polish everything, you’ll be ready to flash your stunning grin!

Veneer FAQs

Is There Anything I Can’t Eat with Veneers?

Once you receive the final, fully customized version of your veneers, you should be able to eat most anything you’d like (though we still recommend cutting back on potentially damaging treats like popcorn and ice cubes).

While you’re wearing your temporary veneers, you will have to be more careful about what you put on your plate. Since they’re not quite as high quality as the final set, they’re more prone to breakage and could even be pulled off your teeth. Avoid raw fruit, crunchy vegetables, hard candy, sticky taffies, and other such foods so your teeth can stay well protected.

Do Veneers Give You a Lisp?

Not directly. Some patients do have trouble pronouncing certain sounds when they first get their veneers. More often than not, though, this is temporary. As you grow more used to the new shape of your smile, you should become accustomed to how you should move your mouth and tongue to enunciate pesky “s,” “sh,” and “th” sounds.

If you still have trouble after about a week or two of wearing your veneers, let us know. It’s possible the veneers need to be adjusted.

Can Veneers Be Used for Bite Corrections?

Aesthetically, yes, but physically, no.

Veneers only adhere to the front facing portion of your teeth, meaning they can’t shift the position of your teeth or jaw. What they can do is make the gaps between individual pearly whites appear smaller and make shorter teeth look longer.

Basically, you’ll likely need orthodontics to correct bite issues that affect your oral health. Otherwise, veneers can help make your smile aesthetics look more proportional.

How Many Veneers Will I Need?

It depends on your treatment goals. Some patients only need one veneer because they simply want to conceal the dental blemishes of one tooth. Others need between 10 and 12 in order to achieve their dream smile. We’ll use as many veneers as are needed to get all of your visible teeth to look consistent.

Is It Painful to Get Veneers?

Most patients find our local anesthetic to be quite effective at numbing their mouth during dental veneer treatment. So, pain is not necessarily common.

That said, we know that pain is relative, and some people do have severe sensitivities or anxiety. If you’re concerned about discomfort during treatment, please let us know. We’ll do what we can to help ensure you feel more at ease!
